Our Story Our History

  

Cedar Hill farm is in Lee County , Iowa. Located in the formerly known Half-Breed tract of Iowa between the banks of the Mississippi and Des Moines Rivers bordering Illinois to the east Missouri to the SW. Settled by JB Cruze in 1863 and purchased the original 93 acres in 1865 in the state’s founding years and the end of the American Civil War. In an area Rich with Iowa History.


The farm is just 4 miles south of Croton, Iowa where the civil war battle of Athens known as the northern most battle west of the Mississippi river. The unionist Army of 333 men faced and defeated about 2000 Confederate supported men of the Missouri State Guard planning to take the Croton Railway supply depot for the Iowa Militia. 


The farm’s NE border is the Santa Fe railroad mainline and the SW by the Des Moines River bordering Missouri. . The former Rock Island and Pacific Railroad runs thru the farm just Hundreds of feet from the House and original homestead.
